It’s spring, and to many people that means getting outdoors more — and there are new children’s books about nature and the outdoors to share with your kids.

Interested in starting a garden — or just looking for easy recipes to cook with your kids? Read What’s in the Garden by Marianne Berkes and Cris Arbo. Each page includes beautiful illustrations of kids gardening or cooking fresh vegetables, and the rhyming verses are fun. Use the easy-to-follow recipes on every spread to roast pumpkin seeds, make blueberry pie or whip up some applesauce.

Budding entomologists (insect experts) or any kid who thinks bugs are interesting will like Noisy Bug Sing-Along by John Himmelman. Bugs make their own unique sounds — together, could they create a concert? Parents who read the book out loud will have extra fun making the bug sounds with their kids. Then, at the back of the book, learn more about sound waves and the bugs featured.

Other new books about nature include Touch a Butterfly: Wildlife Gardening with Kids by April Pulley Sayre; Insects and Spiders by Suzanne Walls; and the Close-up series of books Let’s Look at the Garden, Let’s Look at the Oak Tree and Let’s Look Under the Stone.

Dawn Publications provided the two featured books for free for review. Opinions and silliness are my own.
